Hi, I'm Doug, founder and designer at Hollow Wheel Performance. As someone who has always loved designing and riding, creating the Hollow Wheel was a passion project born out of my own frustrations with the skateboarding experience. A Need for Change: Where it All Began
As a mechanical engineer with experience designing everything from engines to smart clothing, I knew I could do better. So, I set out to create something different—a wheel that would be lightweight, have great grip, and deliver an incredibly smooth ride.

Discovering the Perfect Balance of Comfort and Performance
With each iteration, I was learning. When I launched the original Hollow Wheel, I was thrilled with the feedback, but there were things I knew I could improve.V2 had better grip and comfort, but when it came time for V3, I wanted it to feel like a whole new level. This wheel is 50% more comfortable than anything I’ve ever designed. It’s “buttery smooth,” as some riders have called it, absorbing impacts effortlessly. Every ride feels balanced and easy, whether you’re on rough terrain or cruising smooth roads.

F1-Inspired High Grip and Cornering Control
One of the aspects I’m most proud of in V3 is the grip. I took inspiration from Formula 1, where high cornering grip is key. This design provides consistent contact with the ground, letting you lean into curves and turns with full control.
The 72A durometer rubber is just soft enough to get that perfect traction without sacrificing durability. This is a wheel built for real riders who crave that close connection with the road.
Customizable Suspension: Ultimate Feel
I wanted riders to have control over their setup, so V3 includes adjustable suspension inserts that allow you to tweak the feel.This time around suspension inserts significantly enhance range by optimizing the performance of the new wheels. This improvement comes from the enhanced mechanical interaction between the suspension inserts and the wheel halves, which boosts both range and grip dramatically.
These inserts give you the flexibility to set the suspension for what feels best on a given day or type of ride, making each journey uniquely yours.
Speed, Range, and the Lightest 105mm Wheel on the Market
Larger wheels typically mean better top speed, but they also tend to drain battery life. I designed V3 with a 105mm diameter, so riders could enjoy the extra speed while still preserving battery efficiency. In fact, despite the size, V3 only has about a 10% impact on the range—a huge win for electric skateboarders looking to go farther without extra weight.|
